Roadworks along Plattekloof Road commencing this evening

28 April 2026

The City’s Urban Mobility Directorate will commence with roadworks on kerbs and channels along the southbound lane of Plattekloof Road between the intersections with Baronetcy Boulevard and Uys Krige Drive in Plattekloof this week. Night work will commence on Monday, 4 May, if all goes as planned. The work forms part of regular maintenance to prolong the longevity of the city’s road network.

This week, the contractor will be working on the kerbs and channels. The night work is planned to take place from Monday, 4 May 2026 until early June, in the evenings between 19:00 and 05:30, Monday to Friday, weather permitting and provided there are no unforeseen delays. Residents and business owners must please note that the work will be happening after hours to limit the impact on road users, and as such, should expect some noise. All lanes are scheduled to reopen to traffic by 06:00 on weekdays.

The resurfacing works include the following:
• Milling and removal of existing asphalt surface and replacing it with hot-mix asphalt
• The removal of damaged kerbs and installing new kerbs
• The replacement of selected and damaged channels and re-alignment where needed
• The reinstatement of all road markings removed during the process

‘Unfortunately, roadworks always come with some level of inconvenience, but this is very important maintenance work to ensure we keep Capetonians moving. The benefits of newly resurfaced roads include improved road safety conditions and riding quality, and prolonging the longevity of the city’s road network. I thank residents and commuters for their support and patience while the work is underway,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

Congestion can be expected, and road users are urged to please use alternative routes or to factor in additional travelling time. Also, drivers are reminded to be cautious while work is under way, lower their speed, pay attention to road signs, be vigilant in and around the roadworks area, look out for uneven road surfaces, and be mindful of the construction workers.
